E-LEARNING: AN OVERVIEW OF THE STATUS-QUO, CHALLENGES AND PROBLEMS OF QUALITY ASSESSMENT

The overview has been prepared based on the results of the Erasmus + "KUTEL" project. It gives the
definition of e-learning at the present stage, a review of scientific publications demonstrating the main advantages
of online learning, presents the profile of an online student and a forecast of the volume of the world market of
educational services until 2025, including online training. The authors analyze the current state and problems
of online learning based on the experience of the USA, India, China, Saudi Arabia, Australia, New Zealand and
African countries, and describe the challenges and barriers that hinder the wider spread of e-learning, such as
recognition of diplomas, education safety and quality, the need to maintain infrastructure, a limited range of
languages of tuition, etc.
The study of the quality standards of e-learning set forth by various organizations in various countries
has revealed that the existing quality standards are not legally binding, serve as indicators and standards that
