Abstract

This article examines the theoretical foundations and practical application of the Social network analysis method. The examples are taken from independent works of students (IWS), made during the course "Sociology and research methods". The founder of the method can be considered the French sociologist M. Granovetter, who in 1979 publishes the article "The Power of Weak Ties." Currently, network analysis focuses on network structures, frequency of relationships, centrality in networks, and other criteria. The network approach assumes that the structure of the relationship influences the relationship itself. SNA can be used in marketing, law enforcement to identify criminal (drug traffickers, extremist groups, etc.) networks, in social work and many other areas.
